Yamaha Corporation Joins MusicWood Coalition
January 21th, 2008
Greenpeace and MusicWood coalition partners Gibson, Taylor, Martin and Fender guitars warmly welcomes Yamaha Corporation as the newest partner in the "MusicWood Campaign" designed to protect the sound of our musical instruments by protecting the forests from which they come. To date, the MusicWood campaign is focused largely on providing positive incentives for increased Forest Stewardship Council (FSC) certified lands in the North American Coastal Temperate Rainforest. This forest, once stretching unbroken from Northern California to Alaska, is considered the rarest forest type on Earth, yet much of it has been lost to decades of highly destructive logging practices.
"Although musical instrument manufacturing represents a tiny fraction of the global demand for ancient forest products the industry has proven to be a powerful voice and we've seen our coalition have an impact," said Rob Garner of MusicWood. "We are hopeful that Yamaha's leadership and willingness to join our coalition will have a direct impact on the improvement of forest management on the ground."
